URWERK unveils the limited-edition UR-230 "Black Star" watch, marking the final chapter in the brand's 230 series. Key features include a composite ceramic case, the UR-7.30 movement, a satellite hour display, and a double-turbine automatic winding system.
URWERK concludes its year with the UR-230 "Black Star," bringing a dramatic end to the 230 series trilogy, which began with the Carbon CTP "Eagle" and the ceramic "Polaris." This chapter fully embraces the deep black of the cosmic starry sky—not seeking to reflect light, but to engulf and transform it once more. URWERK describes the watch as a gravitational field where light disappears and reappears in fleeting flashes; Artistic Director Martin Frei echoes this concept, comparing the piece to a celestial body on the verge of collapse, teetering on the edge of existence and non-existence.

Continuing URWERK's signature DNA, the "Black Star" features a satellite hour complication and a retrograde three-dimensional minute hand. Three cube-shaped hour satellites orbit in a 120-degree arc, with the current hour carried by a skeletonized retrograde minute hand that instantly springs back to zero every 60 minutes. The watch is regulated by URWERK's exclusive dual-turbine system, one turbine absorbing shocks while the other controls airflow to adjust the automatic winding efficiency. A control on the case back allows the wearer to fine-tune or disable the automatic rotor, and the different settings are clearly indicated by the 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions.
At the heart of the UR-230 "Black Star" is the UR-7.30 movement, housed within a fully enclosed titanium casing, much like a mechanical safe. Surrounding this "protected heart" is a newly developed laminated composite ceramic case, crafted by fusing woven ceramic, glass fiber, and carbon fiber into a polymer matrix. Precision machining gives the material a near-embossed, glossy, three-dimensional texture, adorned with subtle, star-like reflections, creating a rich and dynamic "black sheen." The case is complemented by a black DLC-coated titanium case back, a sapphire crystal, and a vulcanized rubber strap, further highlighting the watch's fusion of technological innovation and futuristic design.
